Ex-Tottenham player claims Awoniyi ‘earned’ his ‘luck’ against Arsenal
Taiwo Awoniyi has been operating at full capacity for Nottingham Forest lately and has been instrumental in the team’s survival in the English Premier League
Nottingham Forest legend, Steve Hodge, is impressed by Taiwo Awoniyi’s performance as Nottingham Forest defeated Arsenal at the City Ground, Soccernet.ng reports.
By defeating the Gunners, the Reds guaranteed their place in the English Premier League and dashed Arsenal’s chances of winning the league in 2022–23 by giving the trophy to Manchester City.
The former England international praised Awoniyi, who scored the game’s only goal, saying the Nigerian striker deserved his good fortune in the encounter against Mikel Arteta’s team.
Morgan Gibbs-White seized on Martin Odegaard’s errant ball and dashed into the heart of the Arsenal defence to locate the Super Eagles striker who scored the game-winning goal for the Tricky Trees.
The 60-year-old, who once played for Tottenham Hotspur, praised Awoniyi’s recent performance in a BBC Radio Nottingham discussion on the game’s result.
“In these big games when you get a chance like that you have to take it. He got a bit of luck, but he’s earned it with how well he’s played lately.” he said.
The Reds sorely missed the former Union Berlin striker during his three-month absence, and he has been a solid acquisition.
Having recently scored 5 goals in his previous three games for Steve Cooper’s team, the 25-year-old, who had a sluggish start in England following his £17.5 million purchase from Germany, has now established himself as a deadly striker for opponents.
