Eguavoen ‘steps down’ as NFF sacks Super Eagles technical crew
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked the members of the Super Eagles’ technical crew after the resignation of interim Technical Adviser, Austin Eguavoen.
Following the disappointing failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the World Cup, the NFF disengaged the entire crew and thanked them for their service.
A statement by the NFF said;
”Following the failure of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the erstwhile Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen has stepped down from that position with immediate effect.
“The NFF has in the meantime withdrawn the two-and-half years contract offered the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect. A new crew will be announced after a proper review to lead the new charge of reinvigorating the Super Eagles to face future challenges appropriately.”
General Secretary of the NFF, Mohammed Sanusi was quoted as saying;
“We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours.”
Eguavoen led Nigeria to the AFCON and suffered a shocking round of 16 exit before failing to lead Nigeria to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
It’s yet to be officially stated if Eguavoen will return as Technical Director of the NFF but in the meantime, he will no longer be in charge of the senior national football team.
