Calvin Bassey relishing probable clash against Haaland

The Norwegian talisman was not fit for the first leg of the Europa League tie, but he is in a race against time to play in the second leg

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is relishing the prospect of his clash against Erling Haaland when Rangers welcome Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League playoffs.

Haaland had to watch from the sidelines due to a hip injury when Dortmund fell to an embarrassing 4-2 at home. The Black and Reds had the bulk of the possession, but the Gers were more clinical in front of goal.

Bassey had a decent night with a 73 per cent pass accuracy, 55 touches and two clearances.

However, the tie is not over yet, as a 2-0 victory for Dortmund could force extra time. But if they are going to stage any comeback, they would need their star man Haaland.

The Norwegian hitman faces a race against time to be fit for the second leg, and Bassey recognises his potential threat, but the Super Eagles star is ready for the matchup.

“You always want to test yourself against the best,” Bassey told the Sun.

“He is one of the best strikers in the world, without a doubt. You want to see how you do against this sort of player.

“We have got the game on Sunday, and that’s our focus, for now, take our form into the league and get the three points.”

“For us, every game is a big game. I know it’s a cliche, but it’s true because, playing for a team like Rangers, you can’t accept anything less than three points.” He added.

Rangers travel to Dundee this weekend before welcoming Borussia Dortmund to the Ibrox next Thursday.
