Bosso shares thoughts on Nigeria’s performance, reveals plans for World Cup
The Flying Eagles lost their semifinal tie against Gambia, but they put up a mercurial display against Tunisia to claim bronze
Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso has stated that he is happy with Nigeria’s 4-0 win against Tunisia in the third-place match at the 2023 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
After a disapointing 1-0 loss to Senegal in their first game of the AFCON, Nigeria got into their stride and picked two impressive wins against Mozambique to finish second in their group.
The Flying Eagles moved closer to an eighth Nations Cup title after defeating Uganda in the quarterfinal. However, they were stopped in their tracks.
Gambia defeated Nigeria in the semifinal to halt their run and hand them a date with Tunisia in the third-place match.
Ladan Bosso’s lads played their best game of the tournament against the Tunisian side. Goals from Ibrahim Muhammad, Ahmed Abdullahi, and Sunday Jude sealed the win for Nigeria.
Nigeria coach Bosso was satisfied with the result and he has revealed that he is happy with the result, and he admits that there would be reinforcements ahead of the World Cup in May.
“We planned to go for the trophy, but it was not possible, so we had to go all out in the third-place match so we can put Nigeria on the medal table,” Bosso said per AIT.
“We have just done that, so I say congratulations to Nigeria.
“My message to Nigerians is for them to be patient with the team and keep faith with the team.
“The best thing is to finish well, and that is what we have done. We believe in the boys, and we believe that they have something to offer. We will reinforce the team before the World Cup.”
The team had an average performance in the Nations Cup, and if they want to perform at the World Cup, Bosso would have to work on a lot of things.
