After Serie A disappointment, Super Eagles star set to join three-time Super League champions

PAOK Salonika are on the verge of completing the signing of defender William Troost-Ekong from Watford, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian international, who spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Salernitana in Italy, seems poised for another transfer this summer.

Although Salernitana had an option to purchase Troost-Ekong included in the loan agreement, the Italians declined the chance to make the deal permanent.

Following that disappointment, it appears that the Super Eagles vice-captain will instead be making his way to PAOK Salonika in Greece.

According to Greek outlet Sportime, the three-time Super League champions have reached an agreement with Watford to secure the services of the centre-back for a transfer fee of €1 million.

Troost-Ekong, who represents Nigeria at the international level, joined Watford in 2020 from Udinese.

Since he arrived at Vicarage Road, he has made 68 appearances for the club. During the just-concluded season, the veteran centre-back featured in 15 Championship matches for Watford before being sent out on loan to Salernitana.

While in Italy, Troost-Ekong showcased his abilities in Serie A, making nine appearances, scoring once, and facing formidable opponents like Juventus, Inter Milan, and Roma.

Now, he is set to embark on a new chapter in his career, joining a PAOK Salonika side that finished in fourth place in the Greek Super League last season.

The transfer of William Troost-Ekong to PAOK Salonika represents an exciting move for the Nigerian defender, who will aim to make a significant impact in Greek football and contribute to his new team’s aspirations for the upcoming season.
