AFCON 2021: One new arrival at the Super Eagles camp as the team prepares to leave for Cameroon
The three-time African champions’ camp in Abuja keeps growing as they prepare to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon
Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo has finally arrived at the Super Eagles training camp ahead of the 2021 AFCON, which starts on Sunday.
Aribo arrived on Tuesday night to bring the total number of players in camp to 24. The reason for the 25-year-old’s late arrival is unclear as the Scottish Premiership has been on a winter break since December 26.
Nonetheless, he is still expected to play a key role in the squad as Nigeria go four a fourth continental title in Cameroon.
Aribo’s arrival means that interim boss Austin Eguavoen is now waiting for only Samuel Chukwueze, Jamilu Collins, Tyronne Ebuehi and Odion Ighalo, although the latter could miss out.
Chukwueze’s late arrival is due to the involvement with Villarreal on Monday night, while Eguavoen revealed Collins will arrive today (Wednesday).
However, it remains to be seen if Ebuehi will link up with the squad in Nigeria or Cameroon. The Super Eagles will depart for the host nation tonight ahead of their opening match against Egypt on Tuesday.
