AFCON 2021: Eguavoen reveals how Nigeria will prepare for Tunisia
The three-time African champions have a date with the 2004 champions after the Carthage Eagles qualified as one of the four best third-placed teams
Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen has said that Nigeria will approach the clash against Tunisia in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in the same way they have played so far in the tournament.
Nigeria have been the most impressive team at the AFCON, winning all three group games, the only side to do so in the competition.
Their reward for finishing top of Group D is a second-round clash with Tunisia, who finished as one of the four best third-placed teams.
And ahead of the tie on Sunday, Eguavoen revealed that the Super Eagles would play with the same passion and style they have shown in the competition while adding they will also practice penalties.
“Going into the round of 16, same approach, same system, same aggression, and we are going to train more on penalties,” Eguavoen said after Nigeria’s win against Guinea-Bissau, as per Modo.
The Super Eagles will go into the match as the favourites because of their form while they have also won the last two AFCON matches between the two sides.
Nigeria beat Tunisia in the third-place match of the AFCON 2019, courtesy of an early strike from Al-Shabab striker Odion Ighalo.
The three-time African champions also saw off the challenge of the Carthage Eagles in their 2006 quarterfinal clash via penalty shootout.
Sunday’s encounter will take place at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium, where the Super Eagles played all three group games.
