Waldrum, Super Falcons make top five shortlist for CAF Awards
The Super Falcons had an impressive year, and they have gotten some recognition for their performances
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have made the five-team shortlist for the Team of the Year category in the 2023 CAF Awards, Soccernet.ng reports.
After failing to impress at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Falcons improved in 2023. Despite failing to reach the final of the World Cup, they were very impressive.
The Randy Waldrum-tutored side were drawn in a group that had Canada, Australia, and Ireland. And the expectations were very low because of the brouhaha that occurred with the team and the NFF before the competition.
However, they put up three impressive performances in the group stage to seal the second spot in their group.
Unfortunately, their run was stopped in the round of 16 when they played England. The Super Falcons were the better team against the European champions, but their poor finishing eventually cost them as they lost out on penalties.
Following their superb performance at the World Cup, CAF have nominated the Super Falcons as one of the five teams in the Female Team Of The Year Award category.
