‘A fantastic man’- Former assistant manager to Steven Gerrard hails Balogun’s return to Rangers
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has made a return to Rangers after a previous two-year stint between 2020 and 2022
Rangers FC manager, Michael Beale says he is delighted to have Leon Balogun back at the club following the Super Eagles defender’s brief stint at QPR in the Championship last season, Soccernet.ng reports
The Super Eagles defender makes a return to the Ibrox Stadium after a previous two-year stint between 2020 and 2022, signing a one-year contract.
The 42-year-old had previously worked as a first-team coach under Steven Gerrard during Balogun’s previous two-year stint at the club.
They have previously reunited at QPR in the English Championship last season, where Beale managed before leaving to take charge of the Scottish club.
The Manager had previously spoken about his desire to add experience to his squad, with Balogun bringing that, both as a member of Beale’s squad and as a leader around the dressing room.
Speaking on the return of Balogun, Beale hailed the Nigerian international and revealed how much he trusts the Super Eagles defender as a player.
“He is a player we all know, he is a fantastic man and he is an excellent football player. He was here in a really successful period in the team, and I have a lot of trust in him as a person and as a football player.
“It’s early in the summer, so there are going to be more signings coming in and out. We have a really fixed idea on some of the work we are doing, and it’s ongoing. Leon Balogun is someone I have been speaking to for the last few weeks, he has been working away with his fitness, and he is in a good place, so we are delighted he came back to join us,” he said.
They have had an excellent time together at the club, winning the title in 2021, the Scottish Cup in 2022, and the run to the Europa League final in 2022.
