The Republic of Ireland are sweating on the fitness of their captain Katie Mccabie with their clash against Super Falcons of Nigeria just 20 days away

With just a few days to the start of the Women’s World Cup, the Super Falcons’ Opponent, the Republic of Ireland, are

sweating on the availability of their captain Katie Mccabie for the tournament, Soccernet.ng reports

Taking part in their first-ever World Cup since the tournament started in 1991, the Republic of Ireland will play against the Super Falcons of Nigeria on the 31st of July, in the tournament’s group stage.

Neither of the two teams is tipped to make it out of their group, including Olympic champions Canada and co-host Australia.

Despite the Republic of Ireland being one of the best teams in European qualifiers for the tournament, they’re still widely regarded as one of the outsiders to win the World Cup.

They have been engaging in a series of friendly games to prepare themselves for the tournament, which is set to be hosted in Australia and New Zealand.

However, an injury scare to their captain Katie Mccabe in their recent friendly defeat against France might be coming as good news to their opponents, as only the top two teams are guaranteed progression to the knock stage of the competition.

Mccabe, who can operate as a left back, a left winger, or a left midfielder, is rated as one of the best players in the World, and she would be a big blow to the Republic of Ireland if the injury rules her out of the tournament.

The Republic of Ireland and Nigeria will play against each other for the first time in a World Cup match on the 31st of July in Brisbane, Australia.
