Photos: Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen shares his ‘good old’ swag days with fans

Eguavoen was an essential part of the 1994 African Nations Cup-winning Nigeria national team, guiding the nation to the first World Cup qualification.

Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has recently delighted fans with a nostalgic trip down memory lane by sharing photos of his stylish days from the ’90s, Soccernet.ng reports.

Eguavoen, known for his remarkable contributions to Nigerian football, took to his social media page to showcase his swag-filled moments from his playing career.

The images which featured the Super Eagles legend in a Russian magazine recalled his times with Torpedo Moscow, where he played from 1997 to 1998, playing 25 games and scoring once.

The Nigerian, who played right wingback, was spotted wearing a brownish-coloured turtleneck sweater, black baggy pants, and beautiful sneakers while striking a peace sign post.

However, in a caption accompanying the photos, Eguavoen expressed gratitude to his friend Alexey Yuric, who presumably provided him with the treasured snapshots. He wrote, “From the Archives. The good old ‘90s! 😎 Thanks for these, my friend, @AlexeyYuric 🇷🇺🇳🇬.”

Eguavoen’s images portrayed a bygone era of football fashion, with bold hairstyles, vibrant jerseys, and unmistakable confidence radiating from the former coach.

The pictures encapsulated the essence of an era when Eguavoen showcased his skills on the field and left an indelible mark on Nigerian football.

Eguavoen’s coaching career saw him lead the national team to the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals in 2006, where the team won a bronze medal, beating Senegal in the third-place play-off.

He also served as an interim coach after Gernot Rohr was sacked, leading the Super Eagles to the 2021 AFCON tournament but leaving early after they were shown the exit door in the round of 16 by Tunisia.

Eguavoen’s swag-filled images are a fun reminder of the legendary players and colourful past that have shaped Nigerian football.
