Super Eagles to know opponents in July

The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the last World Cup, but they would be looking to redeem themselves

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will know their opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on the 12th of July, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles failed to make the previous World Cup in Qatar because of a painful loss to Ghana in the final round of qualification. Morocco were the best African team at the tournament, as they became the first African to make it to the semifinal.

Nigeria would be looking to qualify for the next World Cup which will be hosted by America, Mexico, and Canada, and the Confederation of African Football has revealed the modalities.

The draws will be made on the 12th of July, and all 54 nations that are part of CAF will participate. The countries will be put in nine groups, which means each group will have six teams.

The teams that finish on top will qualify for the Mundial, while the four best second-placed teams will participate in CAF’s playoff tournament. The winner of the playoffs will then participate in FIFA’s playoff tournament.

This would be the first time that CAF would employ this qualification format. The 2026 World Cup would have 48 teams instead of the usual 32.
