Golden Eaglets’ defender explains why they defeated Zambia
Nduka Ugbade’s boys defeated Zambia with a score of 1 goal to nil
Golden Eaglets defender, Yahaya Lawali, has made some admissions on their first victory against Zambia at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Favour Daniel’s goal in the 76th minute helped the Nigeria under-17 team upset the tenacious Zambian team with a score of one to zero.
Lawali acknowledged that Ian Bakala’s team was difficult to beat, but the coach’s tiny details helped their squad to prevail in the game at Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium.
With 53% of the game’s possession, the two-time AFCON winners dominated, but the Southern Africans also showed that they were a formidable opponent.
However, the boys’ victory was secured by a rebound from Abubakar Abdullahi that pounced to Daniel, who then blasted it to the left corner of the Zambian goalpost.
The man of the match was awarded to Lawali after the game, who then explained how the Golden Eaglets were able to defeat the tough Zambian team.
“It was a really tough game because Zambia are a good side. The little details gave us a win today. We scored when it mattered most, and we defended well. It has given us motivation for the next game,” he told CAFonline.
Given that South Africa’s match against Morocco has yet to end, Nigeria presently leads Group B.
