Europa League: Union SG’s Boni-face a late turn at Bay Arena

Victor Boniface’s team has not won in Germany since a 1-0 victory against Berlin in September 2022

Royal Union SG’s second-half goal by Victor Boniface was cancelled out by a late score from Florian Wirtz, keeping their semi-final possibilities alive.

The UEFA Europa League debutant has had an outstanding episode in the tourney, knocking off Union Berlin, another German team, from the competition.

After drawing the Berliners in a six-goal thriller, the Unionists demolished their opponents by a score of three goals to one at Brussels

Another German team was placed alongside Belgium, which has yet to lose since February, giving Karel Geraerts’ men a bigger fish to fry.

However, Boniface, who was a goal behind Marcus Rashford, pledged to give it his all at the Bay Arena and did so in the second half.

The Nigerian increased his Europa League goal total to six after latching onto a ball inside the area and firing into the bottom right corner of the hosts’ net.

The visitors could only celebrate for a few minutes until Sardar Azmoun found German forward Witz, who blasted in a spectacular strike to tie the score.

Die Werkself will head to Joseph Marien Stadium hoping to win, while Boniface’s team likewise must win to move to the next round of the competition.
