A new fate for Ndidi and Iheanacho? Benitez tipped to replace Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers was shown the exit door after four years in charge of Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers’ replacement as manager of Leicester City is widely expected to be former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

The club was forced to make alternative decisions, according to a previous report from Soccernet.ng, after the Irish manager led the squad to 17 defeats that season and dropped them to the bottom of the English Premier League rankings.

After Rodgers’ departure, sources claim that the East Midlands have made Rodgers an offer to rescue the squad to avoid being relegated to the second tier.

The two Nigerian stars at the club, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, would have a fresh fate and an opportunity to win over the new manager should Benitez accept this offer.

What is the fate of Ndidi and Iheanacho?

It may be claimed that Ndidi and Iheanacho have not had a significant role to play for the foxes in this Premier League season. Although, Ndidi is progressively catching up to the rigours of the league, despite the setbacks he has had due to injuries.

Not to mention that his countryman Iheancho, a third choice under Rodgers this season, suffered the same fate. Despite this, Iheanacho has consistently shown himself to be a top performer, saving the King Power team in the FA Cup and scoring in key crucial games.

If the 62-year-old, who has been out of work since January 2022 when he left Everton, takes over at the King Power Stadium after Brendan Rodgers’ departure, the two Nigerians would have a clean slate to prove under the new manager.

It’s quite easy for Iheanacho and Ndidi to blend in since Benitez is well-recognised for his counter-attacking approach.

By holding the midfielder, the former KRC Genk player is still anticipated to provide his expertise to the new manager. Iheanacho, though, has been among the top centre-forwards for Leicester this year. He has more goals (6) than Patson Daka (4) and Jamie Vardy combined (4).

Based on statistics, and his partnership with James Maddison, Iheanacho might be well employed in the final ten games to deliver the squad from relegating to the Championship division.
