“That's the only way he can become a great player” – Gift Orban receives success tips from Sven Kums
The Nigerian youngster has been the most talked about footballer in Belgium since he arrived from Norway in January
Belgian midfielder Sven Kums has advised his Gent teammate Gift Orban to work harder than most and not let his huge potential go to waste.
20-year-old Orban has had a sensational start at La Gantoise, scoring 14 goals in just 11 games, including a hat-trick in Istanbul that sent the Buffalos to the Conference League quarter-finals.
Orban scored twice and assisted another in a recent Jupiler Pro League clash against RFC Seraing, helping Gent to a resounding 5-0 victory.
The youngster is the talk of the town in Belgium, and reports are already linking him to a big-money move to the Italian Serie A or the English Premier League in the summer.
Former Udinese star Sven Kums admits Orban has the potential to be one of the greats, but the 35-year-old has urged the young player to put in the hard work and not to get carried away by his early success.
“In his head, he is sure to go far, and I think everyone sees that he has enormous potential,” Kums said in an interview with Eleven Sports.
“He can, of course, dream big, and I believe he has the potential to do so, but I've seen so many players with a lot of potentials not confirm as much as we hoped.”
Kums, an experienced midfielder who has played for several top-tier clubs in Belgium and abroad, knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
He has advised Orban to remain focused on his development, both on and off the pitch, and to avoid complacency. “He has to keep working hard, keep his feet on the ground, and stay humble,” Kums said.
“He has to keep learning from his mistakes and keep improving every day. That's the only way he can fulfill his potential and become a great player.”
Orban will undoubtedly face more challenges and obstacles in the coming weeks and months as he seeks to establish himself as one of the best young talents in Belgian football. But with the guidance and support of his experienced teammate Kums, he has every chance of fulfilling his potential and achieving his dreams.
