“Chukwueze is fast on the right” – '95 UEFA Champions League winner cautions Anderlecht
Samuel Chukwueze has scored two goals and provided three assists in his last three matches for Villarreal CF
Former Anderlecht boss, John van den Brom, has warned his old team in advance of their Europa Conference League matchup against Villarreal CF.
Lotto Park will be the centre of attention when Anderlecht and Villarreal square off in the Conference League rivalry.
Anderlecht recovered from a one-goal deficit in the doubleheader with Ludogorets, but they will face far more hurdles when they play the Yellow Submarine.
Meanwhile, the Vitesse Arnhem legend, who has overseen 11 teams in Europe, faced Villarreal with Lech Poznan last September. Although the Poles overcame Villarreal in the group stage, they fell to them at the Estadi Ciutat de València in Spain.
Yet he did not hesitate to warn his former team that the Spanish may pose a significant threat to the Purple and White.
“Villarreal are a team that always wants to play football. They pass the ball around and wait for an opening to disrupt the opposition's defence. So you have to close the centre well and cut the passing lines,” he said, as quoted by Belgian media outlet La Dernière Heure.
Chukwueze, a quick-footed winger, has contributed 10 assists and 10 goals in all competitions for Quique Setién's team. He has played in five European Conference League matches and has two goals and two assists to his credit.
The Super Eagles forward presently lead Setién's team in assists (10), and the former Ajax great has said that Sporting should give him more priority.
“It is also important to pay attention to the counter because Chukwueze is fast on the right. Villarreal has many offensive assets, but it is not impossible to paralyse them. If Anderlecht succeeds, they have a chance to qualify.” he said.
As the La Liga squad visits Belgium, they will be attempting to build on back-to-back victories against Getafe (2-1) and Almeria (2-1), and the 23-year-old will be hoping to lead his side to victory on Thursday night.
