“It hurts” – Brilliant Super Eagles star sad to leave MAPEI Stadium with nothing despite netting first Serie A brace
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers made an impressive contribution in Cremonese’s Serie A clash against Sassuolo on Monday, but his brilliant brace was not enough to earn his team a point.
Despite coming off the bench, the former Feyenoord forward displayed his goal-scoring prowess by finding the back of the net twice in the 62nd and 83rd minutes, canceling out Sassuolo’s two-goal lead.
However, Cremonese’s joy was short-lived as Nedim Bajrami scored the winning goal for Sassuolo in extra time, leaving the visitors empty-handed.
Dessers expressed his disappointment after the game, saying (via VI), “I’m happy with my goals, but I’m still disappointed. I wanted to win. This defeat hurts.”
The two goals were the first brace Dessers would score in a match since switching to the Italian Serie A in the summer.
Dessers, who had been sidelined due to injury in recent weeks, was pleased with his performance and the support from Cremonese fans, saying, “It’s great to score for the away section. All I could hear was our fans the whole game. That was beautiful.”
Despite the defeat, Dessers believes that Cremonese is on the right track and that results will come if they continue to perform well.
The striker’s disappointment at the loss was evident, but his performance showed he could be a valuable asset to his team.
Cremonese will hope to bounce back in their next match, with Dessers expected to play a pivotal role if the club is to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
