Super Eagles star dumps Russian club amidst Russo-Ukrainian war
The forgotten Super Eagles star leaves the club less than a months after joining
Forgotten Super Eagles star Sylvester Igboun has dumped Russian Premier League side Nizhny Novgorod barely less than one month after joining the club.
The 31-year-old has been plying his trade in Russia since 2015 after he moved from Midtjylland to FC Ufa. Igboun joined Nizhny Novgorod on a free transfer last month after his contract at Dynamo Moscow expired.
The Lagos-born initially forward signed a one-year deal with Nizhny Novgorod. However, according to Championat, Igboun has decided to cut ties with the Russian top-flight side because of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
His action was made possible because of FIFA’s special ruling that allows players in Russia to leave their clubs or transfer to clubs outside Russia.
Igboun has played 156 games in the Russian Premier League, scoring 28 goals and assisting eleven.
The 31-year-old has six caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, but his last appearance was under former coach Sunday Oliseh against Swaziland in 2015.
