‘He’s worth much more than that’- Rodgers on Ndidi’s ₦28b potential bid from Villa
The 25-year-old midfielder has been linked with a £50m move to the West Midlands, but the former Liverpool coach believes his star player deserves more
Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers has hinted that the Foxes will not sell Wilfred Ndidi for £50m (₦28b) amid reports of a potential bid from Aston Villa in the summer.
Villa are reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old this summer, but Rodgers says he does not see Ndidi leaving.
Ndidi is one of Rodgers trusted stalwarts and has been one of the best players in his position since he arrived at Leicester from Genk in 2017.
And while Rodgers admits that it is normal for clubs to be interested in a player of Ndidi’s quality, he insists the Nigerian is happy at the King Power Stadium, and he will not leave for £50m.
“He’s worth much more than that,” Rodgers said when asked about Ndidi’s potential move to Villa.
“A player of that quality and mentality, of course, you want to always keep, but when you have that player, he will always attract interest.
“But he seems very settled here. I know he’s moved into a new house and he seems very, very happy. He’s a pleasure to work with, and hopefully, he can be around the club for many years.”
Meanwhile, Ndidi also revealed he is not interested in leaving the club. He showed why Rodgers rates him highly in Leicester City’s Europa Conference League encounter against Randers on Thursday night.
The Nigerian international opened the scoring as the Foxes thrashed their Danish opponents 4-1.
Ndidi has a contract that runs until 2024.
