Amoo, Mukairu: FC Copenhagen snubs talented Nigerian imports for European assignments
The Danish giants have decided not to count on the talents of their two new Nigerian signings for their continental challenge later this month
FC Copenhagen have selected their squad for the Europa Conference League and have omitted the names of new signings Akinkunmi Amoo and Paul Mukairu.
Amoo joined Copenhagen from Hammarby IF on the winter transfer deadline day, ending his brilliant one-and-a-half year stay with the Swedish side.
The deal that took the teen winger to Denmark was announced hours after the White Lions completed the signing of compatriot Mukairu.
A versatile attacker who can play anywhere across the frontline, Mukairu arrives from Turkish side Antalyaspor for about €1.90 million. The 22-year-old spent the 2020-21 season at Anderlecht under the tutelage of former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.
But despite the duo’s celebrated arrival in Copenhagen, the former Danish champions have excluded them from their Europa League programme.
It was, however, not an easy decision for Copenhagen to make as the club needed to register three out of the seven players they signed in January.
The club, therefore, included the trio of Roony Bardghji, Denis Vavro, and Khouma Babacar, leaving out Amoo, Mukairu, Mamoudou Karamoko, and Nicolai Jørgensen.
It is still unknown who FC Copenhagen will next meet in the Conference League. The Danish side finished top of their group, thus advancing directly into the quarterfinals and skipping the first knockout round.
