Walk programme:Varsity don shares benefits of healthy living


The Dominican University, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, disclosed its plan to organise a walk programme to promote the physical well-being of the varsity community.

The “Walk for a Healthy Nation” is an initiative of the university which aims at encouraging healthy living among the academic community and the general public.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Hyginus Ekwuazi, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital disclosed that the institution believes in the development of students and members of staff in all ramifications.

According to the university management, the event is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 17, at 7am in Lagos.

“At Dominican University, we believe in the all-round development of our students and staff. This walk signifies our commitment to promoting physical exercise and healthy living, fostering a culture of all round wellbeing within our academic community,” Ekwuazi stressed.

He informed further that the university is taking proactive steps to promote holistic development recognise the undeniable benefits of regular physical exercise on mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

He added that regular exercise has proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, while also improving cognitive function, memory, concentration, and equally contributes to cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles and bones, and helps maintain a healthy weight.

According to him, “This walk presents an excellent opportunity for students, staff, and members of the community to come together in support of healthy living. By participating in this event, attendees will not only embrace an active lifestyle but also contribute to creating awareness about the significance of physical exercise.”

Dominican University is the first university founded by the Order of Preachers on the African continent.
