The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi has submitted that attacks, killings, and other activities of criminals including bandits and terrorists in the country happen too frequently to expect President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the victims of such incidents or their families as the case may be.

The Minister stated this during an interview with BBC Hausa where he stated that the nature of the President’s job doesn’t allow him to dedicate much time to condolence visits.

He argued further that security operatives are investigating the issues and giving reports to the President.

The Minister’s submission comes on the heels of the outrage which greeted the absence of the President at the scene of a recent attack in Sokoto state where bandits attacked and burnt alive scores of passengers.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan on Monday revealed how much each Senator and House of Representative member in Nigeria take home as salary on a monthly basis.

The number-three man in the country made the disclosure during the presentation of a paper titled, ‘The Legislature, Legislative Mandate and People – The Reality and the Public Perception’ at the First Distinguished Parliamentarians Lecture Series organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.

According to Lawan, each Senator earns N1.5 million while a member of the House of Representatives pockets ₦1.3 million as monthly salary.

Speaking further, the Senate President revealed that there’s a difference between the lawmakers’ monthly salary and their quarterly office running cost.

Ahmed disclosed that the ₦13m that was mentioned at a time in the past which generated a lot of heated debate in the country was the quarterly office running cost of a Senator while a Rep member gets ₦8m for the same purpose.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has called on police officers in the country to prepare to deal with more crimes in the coming year.

Nigeria’s number one police officer stated that 2021 has been very challenging for the Force due to the activities of kidnappers, bandits, terrorists, and other criminals.

He added that the morale and operational base of the force were affected by the #EndSARS violence which happened in 2020 and police operational assets were also destroyed.

Baba made this known on Monday in Abuja at a meeting with Deputy Inspector-Generals of Police, Assistant Inspector-Generals of Police, and Commissioners of Police.

Nigerians have been told to prepare for an increase in tax payment as well as the imposition of a new tax regime on certain goods, the federal government has announced.

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed made this known on Monday in Abuja while speaking with stakeholders at a public hearing on the 2021 finance bill organized by the House of Representatives committee on finance.

According to the Minister, the adjustment in taxes is part of the provisions of the 2021 fiance amendment bill.

She added that apart from the provisions of the bill, some other adjustments will be introduced which the government aims to implement by the middle of 2022.

The embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dragged the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) and the Department of State Service (DSS) to court.

According to the suit filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the pro-Biafra activist is seeking an order to compel the DSS to allow him access food, medical care and clothes of his choice.

The suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS1585/2021 was instituted by Barrister Maxwell Chibuike Okpara on behalf of the detained IPOB leader.

Nnamdi Kanu also applied for another order against DSS to allow him make arrangements for his food by himself at his own expense.

He alleged that a doctor engaged by the security agency has extracted his blood over 21 times.

The IPOB leader stated that despite an order of the court, he has neither been allowed to have a change of clothe nor to practice his religion in detention.

The National Youth Service Corps on Monday disclosed that unvaccinated prospective corps members will be barred from accessing their campgrounds across the country.

The DG of the youth scheme, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, while announcing the development, said the measure will take effect from the next orientation camp.

Ibrahim while addressing 2021 Batch “C” Stream Two Corps Members and Camp Officials, noted that prospective corps members will now need to show evidence of vaccination from coronavirus before gaining access to the camp ground.

According to the DG, NYSC is trying to curb the spread of the virus following the detection of the Omicron COVID variant in the country.

He further stated that corps members would not be given two weeks break after leaving the Orientation Camp.

Ibrahim charged corps members to add value to themselves by acquiring skills that would make them business owners, instead of seeking white-collar jobs.

The Zamfara Government has reacted to the imposition of ₦1 million as levies by bandit terrorists on Birnin Tsaba, Gabaken Mesa, Gabaken Dan-Maliki, Turawa, Askawa and Yanbuki communities.

Ezenwoko’s Blog learned that the terrorists gave the communities December 11 as the deadline to pay the levies or risked being attacked.

According to a resident in the area, some of the communities have paid the levies in order to prevent further attacks on their communities.

He disclosed that the development has caused panic in the affected areas in Zurmi, Kaura Namoda and Birnin-Magaji Local Government Areas of the state.

Reacting to the development, Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, said the state government is aware of the levies imposed on the communities.

Dosara, therefore, said that the government is working with the security agencies to ensure that the communities are secured.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has relieved the State Commissioner of Health, Professor Princewill Chike, of his job.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that the governor made this known in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Kevin Ebiri.

According to Ebiri, the commissioner was sacked for unilaterally hosting the preliminary session of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, in Port Harcourt, adding that the Rivers State Government never requested to host the preliminary session of the council.

He added that Chike failed to seek the consent of the Rivers State Government before hosting the session, adding that the event coincided with the commissioning and flagging off projects in the state.

Ebiri disclosed that Governor Wike announced Chike’s sack on Monday when MDCN officials paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House.

He revealed that the governor stated that the action of the commissioner was embarrassing and brought disrepute to the state.

Former presidential candidate Professor Pat Utomi has accused the Muhammadu Buhari government of being the most corrupt administration in the history of the country.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Utomi said that the country has become more corrupt than it was before President Buhari came to power.

The professor of political economy claimed that the Buhari administration has proven to be more corrupt and nepotic than past governments.

He asserted that many well-meaning Nigerians who supported the present government to come into power because of the anti-corruption mantra have now been disappointed.

Speaking on the solution, Utomi said the nation must have a conversation with itself as regards how the country can be saved.

Troops of the Nigeria Army have rescued one of the two traditional rulers kidnapped in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State on Sunday.

Ezenwoko’s Blog gathered that the traditional ruler of Amagu Ihube, Acho Ndukwe, was rescued after the soldiers raided criminal camps in Orsu and Ihiala Local Government Areas in Anambra State.

During the raid on the camps, the troops also arrested 30 suspected kidnappers.

Recall that HRH Ndukwe and that of Ihitte Ihube, Paul Ogbu, were kidnapped during an invasion of their communities by the gunmen.

The youth leader of Umuololo- Okigwe was also kidnapped and the home of a community leader, Fabian Nwosu, was destroyed.
