President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.

The President described it as a well-deserved victory and congratulated the candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and other members for a successful outing.

Buhari’s reaction was contained in a statement on Sunday by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

Reacting, President Buhari in his statement said “the victory is well deserved considering Oyebanji’s contributions to the development of the State and the party, before his nomination as the standard bearer, urging him, however, to be magnanimous in victory in the interest of the people of the State.”

He also rejoiced with the APC chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Working Committee for the victory, the first under the tenure of the newly elected executives of the party.

The Kaduna State Government has condemned the killing of three persons following an attack by gunmen on two churches in the state on Sunday.

Ezenwoko’s Blog earlier reported bandits invaded two churches in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state and killed three persons and injured two other persons.

In a statement released by the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the state government expressed sadness over the attacks and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Aruwan disclosed that the attack happened at Ungwan Fada, Ungwan Turawa and Ungwan Makama in Rubu general area of the local government.

He stated that the bandits stormed the villages on motorcycles, beginning from Ungwan Fada, and moving into Ungwan Turawa, before Ungwan Makama and then Rubu.

Aruwan also revealed that the bandits attacked worshippers in the Maranatha Baptist Church and St. Moses Catholic Church in Rubu village.

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Segun Oni, has said that the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election is unacceptable and cannot stand.

The spokesman of the Segun Oni Campaign Organisation, Moses Jolayemi, stated on Sunday that the SDP candidate has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s governorship poll.

Ezenwoko’s Blog earlier reported that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Biodun Oyebanji, was declared as the winner of Saturday’s election.

Oyebanji polled 187,057 to defeat former governor Oni who scored 82,211, while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bisi Kolawole scored 67,457.

In a chat with Vanguard on Sunday, Jolayemi stated that the election was marred with vote-buying and other electoral malpractices.

Jolayemi accused the APC of engaging in vote-buying and using political thugs to intimidate voters and harass opposition during the election.

He alleged that security agencies were compromised during the election and INEC officials were also culpable because the arrangement of the polling booth and the ballot boxes was awkward.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has called on all members of the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite so as to resolve all internal wranglings within the party to ensure success in the 2023 general elections.

The governor disclosed this while meeting with over 135 PDP members drawn from the National Executive Committee, State Executive Committee, and Zonal Committee of the party, at the party Secretariat in Benin City.

According to the governor, the meeting became necessary following the defeat of the PDP in the just concluded Ekiti State Governorship election held over the weekend, in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election.

Obaseki said in order not to repeat the Ekiti episode in the presidential election come 2023, the party in the state needs to be united.

He stated that the Edo PDP needs to settle differences among members and bring everyone together to ensure PDP wins the general election.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a Deputy Governorship Candidate Screening Committee.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.

Ologunagba stated that the screening committee will screen/verify nominated deputy governorship candidates of the party in all the 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to be held.

The PDP spokesman said the mandate for constituting the committee by the National Working Committee was pursuant to the provision of Part V, Paragraph 11 of the Electoral Guidelines of the party.

He disclosed that the screening exercise will hold at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 10:00 am.

According to the PDP spokesman, the screening is mandatory for all nominated Deputy Gubernatorial Candidates of the party.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prosecute vote-buyers arrested in the just concluded Ekiti State governorship election.

SERAP made this known in the letter dated 18 June 2022 and signed by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, Ezenwoko’s Blog reports.

The project gave the INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, seven days to gather information about reports of vote-buying and other electoral offences by the three leading political parties in the election.

SERAP stated that if voting is as important as INEC always claims it is, now is the time to end the buying of democracy by wealthy politicians and their sponsors.

Presidential candidate under the platform of Labour party, Peter Obi has said Nigerians and not political parties would decide who becomes president in 2023.

The former governor while reacting to the fact that the presidential election in Nigeria has been a two-horse race between the All Progressive Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party said it is the people that decide on that.

He asked all politicians to tell the people what they can do and how they started.

Former Kaduna Central Lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to Sunday’s attack on churches in the Kajuru area of Kaduna State.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, Sani in his reaction on Sunday evening, alleged that the agenda of the terrorists is to totally wipe out the inhabitants of the local government area.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Ezenwoko’s Blog that gunmen terrorists attacked the St. Moses Catholic Church, Robuh, Ungwan Aku in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan further confirmed that Maranatha Baptist Church was also attacked.

In his reaction, Sani added that the frequency of attacks by the terrorists on residents of Kajuru is alarming and they must be stopped.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Titus Uba on Sunday assured that his administration would sustain the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law.

This according to Uba, would ensure the security of the people and the farming populace who are eager to ensure massive food production for the state and Nigeria at large.

The Guber candidate stated this at the reception organised by the PDP after a Thanksgiving Service at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cathedral Gboko, for candidates of the party in the coming general elections.

He said the law was the only legal backing for the people to resist the planned colony by Fulani herdsmen against the state and her citizens.

Uba also promised to build on the achievements of the Ortom government for a greater development of the state.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Senator Abdullahi Adamu has reacted to the emergence of Biodun Oyebanji, as the Governor-elect of Ekiti State.

Adamu said Oyebanji’s victory was the result of the popularity of his candidature as well as the strong campaign strategies put in place by the ruling APC.

The APC national chairman asserted that the victory was a precursor to the expected victories of the APC in the forthcoming Osun governorship election and at the 2023 general elections.

Adamu stated this in a congratulatory letter to the Governor-elect on Sunday, released by his spokesman, Samuel Jimba, in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

He stated that Oyebanji has the pedigree, experience and vision to take Ekiti to the next level of development. The APC chairman urged the governor-elect to be magnanimous in victory as he sets out to continue to make the state work.

He also thanked the people of Ekiti for reposing their confidence in the APC and Oyebanji, promising the new Governor will continue to implement the people-oriented programmes of the party started by the outgoing Kayode Fayemi.
