Stampede In A Stadium Leaves At Least 29 Dead

A stampede that occurred overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in a football field during a crusade in Monrovia, Liberia, claimed the lives of dozens of people.

Several people had gathered in the stadium in the New Kru district to listen to Pastor Abraham Kromah.

A movement of panic at the end of the event was the cause of the tragedy that has now left 29 people dead.

President George Weah has declared three days of national mourning and ordered all flags to be flown at half-mast on public buildings across the country, his office said in a statement.

The Liberian president has asked that the police quickly carry out an exhaustive investigation to find out whether or not criminal acts are responsible for the tragedy.
