Soldier Killed As Gunmen Kidnap Expatriate In Ondo

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing of a serving soldier at the Ogbonmo area of Ijebu-Owo in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The gallant was reportedly killed by some gunmen who abducted an expatriate in the area on Wednesday evening.

The slain soldier, Ezenwoko’s Blog learnt was a security escort of the victim, who is an engineer.

It was confirmed also that the driver of the victim was killed in the attack. The identity of the victims had not been revealed at the time of filing this report.

The PUNCH quoted a source as saying that the incident occurred at about 5.30 pm on Wednesday.

“The man we call white engineer has been kidnapped. His driver and his security soldier were killed. The gunmen fired many shots into the air to disperse the people around,” said the source whose name was not mentioned to the public.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, said efforts were ongoing to secure ree of the victim.

Meanwhile, one of the parishes under the watch of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah has been attacked by gunmen.

It was gathered that the gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday abducted two priests and two others in the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Kukah’s Sokoto Diocese covers Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.

The development was confirmed by the Director, Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev. Fr Christopher Omotosho, who spoke with Punch.

According to Omotosho, the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto was attacked and no information has been gotten on the location of the abductees.
