Shehu Sani Tells Buhari What To Do About ASUU Strike
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the release of the funds required by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in order to end their lingering strike.
Recall that President Buhari had on Tuesday directed Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, to settle issues with ASUU to end their lingering strike.
President Buhari after receiving briefings from the relevant government Ministries, Agencies and Departments involved in resolving the face-off with the university unions, ordered the Minister of Education to ensure that the impasse was resolved within two weeks and report back to him.
The President also directed that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige not to attend any of the meetings to resolve the crisis.
He further said that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha should be part of the team to interface with the striking unions.
Reacting, Sani in a Twitter post said the President should not have given the Education minister the two-week ultimatum to address the ASUU strike.
He said Buhari should have directed the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, to release the money requested by the union.
The former lawmaker said that decision would have address the lingering strike permanently.
He wrote: “The President don’t need to give the Education Minister two weeks to resolve the ASUU issues. All the president need to do is to direct the finance minister to release the funds needed to address the issues.”
