Serie A: Osimhen unlucky as Mourinho’s Roma end Napoli’s perfect run
The 22-year-old could not add to his goal haul as the Neapolitans were held by Jose Mourinho’s men in their Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico
Victor Osimhen was unlucky not to be on target after he was denied by the post and the offside flag in Napoli’s 0-0 draw against AS Roma on Sunday evening.
Osimhen has been in an incredible goalscoring form this season, with nine goals in ten games for Luciano Spalletti’s men.
However, he could not find the back of the net on Sunday as Napoli 100% record in the Italian top-flight came to an end.
The Neapolitans had won all of their previous league games this season but could not overcome a spirited Roma on Sunday.
Napoli started brightly, but it was Roma that had the best chance of the opening half. However, Tammy Abraham could not slot past Ospina after he was put through on goal.
The away side continued to dominate possession, though and could have taken the lead in the second half through their Nigerian import, but he could only hit Matteo Politano’s low cross against the post.
Napoli then had the ball in the back of the net late in the game as Osimhen headed home a cross from Dries Mertens.
However, the goal was chalked off after replays showed that he was offside. It proved to be the last chance of the game, and both teams had to share the spoils.
