Sea Pirates Kidnap Oil Workers, Civil Defence Personnel In Bayelsa
Gunmen suspected to be sea pirates have kidnapped four workers of Conoil Plc and an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
Ezenwoko’s Blog gathered that the attack occurred last week Wednesday in Koluama 1 in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Confirming the incident, Spokesman of the NSCDC in Bayelsa State, Solomon Ogbere, said the pirates kidnapped an NSCDC official identified as Kalifa and four staff who work in the kitchen department of the oil company
Ogbere said the workers and the security operative were kidnapped on their way to their workstation with supplies.
He revealed that investigation has begun to arrest the gunmen and rescue the kidnapped victims.
He said: “It’s a confirmed story. One of our officers and four civilians were kidnapped last Wednesday while heading to their location where they protect Conoil facilities.”
“They were all on mufti while returning to their base when they were attacked. An investigation is ongoing to track down the culprits.”
However, it was gathered that the sea pirates are demanding N25million for the release of the oil workers.
Recall that suspected sea pirates had launched multiple attacks on some workers with the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).
The attack which occurred took place in Okoroma and Ogbokiri–Akassa communities of Nembe and Brass local government areas of Bayelsa State.
The pirates reportedly killed two workers of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company and an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
