Resettle IDPs, Tiv council urges Taraba gov

The fifth Taraba Tiv Supreme Council, popularly called Ijiir Tamen, appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas on Sunday to resettle internally displaced persons and ensure adequate security in farming communities across the state to guarantee food security.

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of the 5th Supreme Council and the 23rd Tiv Day Cultural Celebration held at the Tiv Council Hall in Bali, Bali Local Government Area of the state and signed by Chairman Tiv Supreme Council, Zaki David Gbaa, and Secretary, Zaki Nelson Targema, and made available to journalists in Jalingo.

According to the community, the council appreciated and applauded the efforts and commitment of Kefas to maintaining peace and providing a peaceful atmosphere for all.

Part of the communiqué read, “The Supreme Council appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to facilitate the return of all displaced persons to their ancestral homes and provide security to enable farmers to access their farms to ensure food security.

“The council also appreciated the Governor for the appointment of Hon. Habu James Philip as Commissioner in his cabinet and Hon. Mrs Mercy Gbashi as Secretary, Donga Local Government Council and further appealed for the appointment of more Tiv sons and daughters in subsequent appointments.

“The state government should provide agricultural inputs to farmers to encourage them to produce more food for the state and the nation.

“That all Tiv stakeholders and traditional rulers in various local government areas of Taraba State should immediately caution their subordinates against crime and to be security conscious.”

While calling on all Tiv people to imbibe the spirit of unity, love, and tolerance for one another as a panacea for development, the supreme council ratified the nomenclature of the Tiv traditional leaders’ council, “Ter Taraba,” to be known as “Gum Begha u Tiv Taraba” (the young lion of Tiv Taraba).
