Police parade five for attacking Gombe judge, others
Gombe State Police Command on Friday paraded five suspects arrested for attacking Upper Area Court Judge, Ayuba Buba, along with the court registrar and others.
The command said the judge and other court officers were brutalised in Degri, Balanga Local Government Area of the state.
Narrating this while parading the five suspects, the Force Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Mahid Abubakar, said the team went to Balanga LGA to inquire about a pending farmland dispute before the court.
He explained that the defendant, Malam Abubakar Umar, and other accomplices allegedly conspired and attacked the said judge and his team with offensive weapons.
He said, “The judge, registrar, and one other person sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical attention. Later on, five suspects in respect of the said crime, namely: Abubakar Dunda, 50 years old; Adamu Umaru Dunda, 54 years old; Hamman Umaru Dunda, 42 years old; Nuhu Dunda, 35 years old; Alhassan Dunda, 39 years old; and Tukur Dauda, aged 40 years, of Degri village, Balanga LGA, were arrested. Umar and other accomplices allegedly conspired and attacked the team.”
Abubakar warned the public against further attempts to breach public peace, stressing that the command, under Commissioner Hayatu Usman, will not tolerate such.
He added that the CP is committed to protecting lives and property across the 11 local government areas of Gombe State.
The PUNCH earlier reported that the state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association had also condemned the attack while urging the command to prosecute the perpetrators of the act.
