Plateau: Security Operatives Fire Gunshots As Youths Invade Assembly

Gunshots were reportedly fired at the Plateau State House of Assembly on Monday to disperse groups of youths from causing havoc.

It was reported that a group of youths loyal to the impeached Speaker, Abok Ayuba stormed the assembly this morning displaying placards with different inscriptions to protest the removal of the politician.

While they were reportedly dancing to music opposite the main entrance of the House, another group reportedly forced their way into the assembly around 8:00 am through the back gate of the Assembly premises.

Members of the new group according to reports, shattered the glass door which leads to the Chambers of the House where the embattled Speaker and some members loyal to him were having a meeting.

When those standing outside recognized some of the youths within the Assembly premises as those loyal to the Yakubu Sanda group, they reportedly began scaling the gate manned by security forces to also gain entry.

To avoid the protesters from causing more chaos, security agents at the statehouse reportedly began firing shots in the air to disperse the people.

The youths, however, according to reports, stood their ground as some of them who earlier scampered for safety regrouped and resumed their singing, displaying their placards.

However, sounds of gunshots have subsided and the youths are still in the vicinity of the House as at the time this report was given.

Meanwhile, a photo of the new youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Muhammad Kadade Suleiman with controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi has stirred reactions online.

Ezenwoko’s Blog had earlier reported that the 25-year-old was elected at the party’s national convention just concluded over the weekend in Abuja.

Mr Suleiman who is an indigene of Kaduna state won the election polling 3,072 votes at the just concluded PDP national convention defeating his challenger Usman Elkudan who had only 219 votes.
