Osun: Lawmaker Escapes As Gunmen Attacks Convoy
The lawmaker representing Ifelodun/ Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rasheed Olalekan Afolabi, has escaped an attack by gunmen on his convoy.
A statement credited to the media aide of the lawmaker disclosed that the attack happened along the Akure-Okenne road in Kogi State.
The aide disclosed that Afolabi and his wife, Abimbola on Monday morning had left their residence in Ikirun after attending the APC State Congress on Saturday and were driven to the Akure Airport to take a flight to Abuja.
The drivers of the lawmaker, however, continued the journey by road to Abuja.
The media aide wrote, “The two cars, Ford SUV and Ford Hilux were, however, attacked along Akure-Kogi road and the gunshots were directed to where it was suspected that Lekan Afolabi would be seated in both cars.
“The front tyres of both cars, windscreen, rear seat and the fuse boxes were shot at and as a result, the vehicles could not start again.”
It was reported that one of the drivers of the lawmaker had noticed that a green Honda CRV had been trailing them from Osun in the early hours of Monday.
The incident has been reported to the police for investigation.
In another development, unknown gunmen have shot dead a member, Sina Babarinde of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Living Word Parish, Basin Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to reports, Babarinde was said to have stepped out of the church to receive a call when the gunmen trailed him and rained bullets on him.
