Ondo rep lauds arrest of suspected Ekiti monarch’s killer


A member of the House of Representatives and governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Mr Jimi Odimayo, has commended the security agencies in Ekiti State for their efforts in arresting one of the alleged killers of the two monarchs in the state.

Odimayo, who represents the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives, also called on the Ekiti State Government and the security agencies in the state to put more efforts in ensuring that other suspects were apprehended.

The traditional rulers, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Ogunsakin and the Olumojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olusola, were killed by the hoodlums last week along Oke Ako-Irele Road in Ekiti State but the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Dare Ogundare, said one of the suspects, Babusa Lede has been arrested over the incident.

The Ondo federal lawmaker, in a statement issued by his Director of Media, Mr Victor Adedeji, on Monday, while condemning the dastardly act, said there was a need for all stakeholders to be more proactive in the security of lives and properties.

Odimayo said, “I have to commend the security agencies for the arrests made so far, and I want to appeal to them to put more effort in apprehending other suspects. Our people too should be vigilant and report any suspicious movement in the locality to the security agencies. ”

The lawmaker, who is also contesting for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the forthcoming November governorship election, kicked off his local government campaign tour in Irele Local Government in the company of party chieftains, said security was one of the top agenda if he became the governor of the state.

According to the statement, the federal lawmaker said he had accomplished several projects, including drilling boreholes in Iju Oke Oja and Igbotako, providing subsidy removal effect allowances to 200 constituents, appointing 89 aides, organising summer lessons for secondary school students, among others.

“He elaborated to the community that the construction of a modern laboratory in Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency has been included in the 2024 Nigerian budget, with plans for execution set to commence shortly.

“Odimayo also outlined additional projects awaiting implementation as per the 2024 budget. These include the construction of integrated solar lights, drilling 35 boreholes in Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, and conducting training programs for women and youth in bead making and various other skills,” the statement added

He expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket and called for the people’s support in the forthcoming primary.
