Okupe Speaks On Peter Obi’s ‘Endorsement’ By Sultan, Sanusi

Doyin Okupe, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has denied claims that the Sultan of Sokoto State, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, and the former Emir of Kano State, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, had endorsed the party’s presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that a viral post credited to Sanusi had described Obi as a contented man, who has volunteered to save Nigeria from impending dangers by contesting the presidency.

Also, posts attributed to the Sultan of Sokoto that had endorsed Obi recently surfaced online. One of the post claimed that the monarch promised to mobilise five million votes for the LP candidate.

“For the sake of your unborn children, vote for Peter Obi, don’t risk another 8 years with Tinubu or Atiku” one of the posts reads.

“I will mobilize 5 million votes in the North for Peter Obi, I have never believed in an Igbo man the way I believe in Peter Obi – Sultan” another post reads.

Reacting to the viral posts in a tweet on Tuesday, Okupe stated that Labour Party and Obi are not in anyway involved in the purported endorsements by Sanusi and Abubakar.

“We dissociate ourselves from the purported endorsements of his candidacy by HRH Lamido Sanusi and His Eminence The Sultan of Sokoto. We plead wt all our supporters to pls desist from creating falsehood in the social media. Let’s focus on claims that are verifiable & true,” Okupe wrote.

Okupe also distanced the party from a viral post claiming that Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra had said Obi invested $20 million in SABMiller Plc on behalf of the state and that the investment is now worth $100 million.

He wrote: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to HE Gov Soludo concerning quadrupling of investment made by Peter Obi as gov of Anambra. This statement is not from him or d campaign organisation. Peter Obi only talks about verifiable claims & what he’ll do when in office.”
