Ogun senator trains constituents in vocations, offers grants
More than 15,000 residents of Ogun West Senatorial District have benefited from the N3bn empowerment programme of Senator Olamilekan Adeola representing the Senatorial District.
The beneficiaries cut across five local governments of Yewa South, Yewa North, Ipokia, Imeko Afon and Ado-Odo/Ota.
The two-fold empowerment programme involved the provision of training in various vocational skills such as leather works, sewing, confectioneries, fish production, ICT, and agricultural value chain and the trainees were given cash grants to the tune of N1bn.
They were equally supported with various working tools such as sewing machines, dryers, freezers, and gas cookers, among others.
Adeola during the empowerment event held at Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, also gave out 30 mini-buses, 50 tricycles, and five ambulances to the general hospitals in the senatorial district as well as three Hilux patrol vehicles to the three Area Commands of the Nigeria Police.
The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro as well as Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Igbesa also received two brand new buses to aid their mobility and operations.
Speaking at the programme, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, said, “We may not be surprised with this mega super empowerment programme of our highly beloved Sen. Olamilekan Adeola popularly called Yayi because his love for his people back home is legendary.
“He is always looking for opportunities that uplift his people, always working towards rekindling the hope of his people. His commitment to addressing the plight of the people of Ogun West is always his topmost priority.
“And Our President, Bola Tinubu is working hard together with us at the national assembly to ensure things are better in this country, we are trying to correct those wrongs, to reshape the economy, polity and entire system.”
Also speaking, Adeola, noted that the gesture was designed to renew the hope of the people.
“The target is for gainful self-employment for youths and women irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliations in Ogun West.
“I hope that many of the beneficiaries will soon be in the business of producing locally made goods and services at the level of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises,” he said.
