Nigerians abroad: Ex-Chelsea star Moses, snubbed Super Eagles attacker Nwakaeme, Super Falcons goal-queen Okparanozie hit target

There were more than a few brilliant performances from Nigerian footballers in the European league circuit on Saturday and Soccernet.ng brings you some of the highlights.

Forgotten Super Eagles forward Anthony Nwakaeme delivered a man-of-the-match display to inspire Trabzonspor to a convincing 2-0 win over Adana Demirspor at the Medical Park Stadyumu in Trabzon.

Nwakaeme has been one of Trabzonspor’s best players this term and he was once again in his best element.

The 32-year-old attacker scored the first and assisted Marek Hamsik for the second as the runaway leaders extended their advantage at the summit of the Super Lig table.

Head coach Abdullah Avci’s men have only dropped six points after 15 matches this term and have established a 13-point gap between them and second-place Konyaspor, who have played one fewer game.

In Switzerland, young Nigerian forward Aiyegun Tosin finally got his season underway with a brace in FC Zurich’s 4-0 humbling of Luzern at the Stadion Letzigrund.

Tosin, who had fired blank in each of his first three league appearances this season, scored Zurich’s first and last goals of the afternoon and claimed the assist to one of the other strikes to power his side past the league’s basement club.

In Russia, Victor Moses scored his first league goal of the season to help Spartak Moscow to a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Akhmat Grozny in a Premier League game week 17 encounter.

Moses’ goal arrived precisely a month after the former Chelsea ace netted his first Europa League goal of the campaign against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The ex-Nigerian international opened the scoring for the Muscovites in the 13th-minute but the visitors equalised moments before the first half break.

Moses had already been replaced before Quincy Promes bundled home the winner for the hosts in the 87th minute.
