NFF President Amaju Pinnick says Leicester City star has chosen Nigeria ahead of England

The number one football man in the country has said that a former England youth international is close to representing the three-time African champions

Nigeria Football Federation President (Amaju Pinnick) has said that Leicester City star Ademola Lookman is set to represent the Super Eagles at international level.

Lookman was born in England and has represented the Three Lions at youth level, winning the U-20 FIFA World Cup in 2017.

However, the 24-year-old is eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents. The Leicester City forward, who is on loan from RB Leipzig, is yet to play for England’s national team and has therefore decided to represent the three-time African champions.

And according to Pinnick, the NFF has already started the paper works, and the switch will be completed in a matter of time.

“Ademola Lookman is excited about fighting for a shirt in the Super Eagles,” Pinnick said as per ESPN journalist Colin Udoh.

“He loves Nigeria. By his grace, we shall conclude the switch very soon,” he added.

Although it remains to be seen if the switch will be completed in time just before next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, Lookman will not feel out of place when he eventually makes his Super Eagles bow.

The former Everton star is already teammates with Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho at the King Power Stadium, while he is also friends with Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina.
