Minister seeks youths involvement in energy transition
The Minister of Youths, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, said the involvement of youths in the energy transition agenda is important.
She also stressed the need to equip youths with adequate knowledge and opportunities in a bid to foster a greener future.
According to a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday in Abuja, Bio-Ibrahim spoke during the launch of the Youth Volt Africa organised by the Green Energy Mission Africa at the Conference of Parties’ 28 in the United Arab Emirates.
She said, “The launch of the YouthVoltAfrica project marks a significant milestone in our commitment to empowering African youths.
“By equipping them with knowledge and opportunities, we are not only fostering a greener future but also cultivating a generation of leaders ready to tackle the challenges of our time.
“The involvement of youths in the transition agenda is paramount, and YouthVoltAfrica serves as a beacon of hope for a sustainable and prosperous Africa.”
The minister added, “Youth Volt Africa is a transformative initiative designed to equip African youth with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to actively contribute to Africa’s Energy Transition.
“Through this project, the youth will engage in renewable energy, climate resilience, and sustainable resource management, playing a critical role in achieving Africa’s ambitious energy transition goals and addressing the persistent issue of energy poverty.”
Also quoted in the statement, the Director-General, National Climate Change Council, Dr. Salisu Dahiru, emphasised, “Addressing climate change requires collaborative and innovative efforts. The YouthVoltAfrica project aligns seamlessly with our goals at the National Climate Change Council, empowering the youth to be active contributors to sustainable development.
“This initiative not only tackles energy poverty but also underscores the importance of youth leadership in shaping a resilient and low-carbon future for Africa. We stand committed to supporting initiatives that drive positive change and environmental stewardship.”
The Founder of Green Energy Mission Africa, Abubakar Shuaibu, remarked, “The launch of the YouthVoltAfrica project is a beacon of hope and empowerment for the youth of Africa. It is a testament to the transformative potential that lies within our young minds. This project is not just about addressing energy poverty; it is about igniting a spark of innovation, resilience, and leadership in our youth.
