Mihajlovic believes Osimhen should have been sent off against Bologna
The Super Eagles striker was again a handful for the opposition defence, but the former Lazio star believes he could have been sent off
Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has hinted that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was lucky to stay on the pitch in Napoli’s 3-0 win over his side on Thursday night at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Osimhen did not score, but he had a major impact on the game, winning the third penalty, while he also forced Gary Medel to handle a cross in the box.
However, Mihajlovic believes the Nigerian could have been sent off for dangerous play before Fabian Ruiz put Napoli ahead.
The Nigerian inadvertently hit a Bologna defender in the box with his elbow. The match official Marco Serra did not see it as a major offence, but Mihajlovic believes players have been sent off for a similar situation in the past.
“I remember [Roberto] Soriano’s sending off for an elbow with a penalty against, today at 1-0, I saw an elbow from [Victor] Osimhen, and no one said anything, the former Inter Milan man said after the match as per Football Italia.
“Let’s continue. The lads tried to do what we had prepared, the first goal we conceded when we played out from the back.
Osimhen had already been sent off once in the league this season. The Nigerian international received his marching orders 23 minutes into Napoli’s opener against Venezia for shoving Daan Heymans.
