Man kills friend over disagreement, police begin manhunt
A man identified as Baba Ade has been accused of killing his friend, Azeez Oyadeji, following a disagreement between them in the Papalanto area of Ogun State.
According to a police source who spoke exclusively with PUNCH Metro on Thursday, a manhunt has begun to apprehend the suspect.
Our correspondent gathered from the source that trouble started when Baba Ade and his friend left home for work on November 19, 2023, at the Mainland Estate in the Papalanto area of the state.
Following the heated argument, the police said Baba Ade allegedly picked up a big stick and hit the 50-year-old in the head, causing him to lose consciousness.
The source said while the victim was struggling for his life, Baba Ade and a security guard who witnessed the incident immediately rushed him to a hospital in Sagamu.
After realising what he had done to Oyadeji, the police said Baba Ade took to his heels and left his friend at the Sagamu hospital.
PUNCH Metro further learned that the victim was later pronounced dead by the hospital five days after the incident.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the police had retrieved the stick used by the suspect to commit the crime, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest him.
“The corpse has been deposited at the Idera Hospital morgue. The security man had surrendered the stick used by the suspect to cause the victim a head injury. We are tracking down the suspect who absconded after the incident to bring him to justice,” Odutola explained.
