Maiduguri Attack: Military Should Wake Up Before It’s Too Late – Zulum
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has expressed sadness over the bombing of a 1000 Housing Estate in Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Ezenwoko’s Blog recalls there was tension on Saturday morning in Maiduguri, Borno State after a massive explosion rocked a 1000 Housing Estate.
Speaking during a visit to the scene of the incident, Governor Zulum asked the Nigerian military to wipe out all terrorists in the state and stop their activities in the North East.
He also urged the military to step up its operations and ensure adequate surveillance in the state. He wondered how the terrorists fired the rockets which affected several houses.
Zulum said, “It seems the insurgents came very close to the town, the military has to wake up and ensure adequate surveillance. This is something that we can avert its occurrence.
“For the insurgents to have come such close to fire rockets, I think there is something wrong that we should have to check.”
Governor Zulum stated assured that government will do everything to prevent further attacks on Maiduguri and environs.
“We have to fortify Maiduguri town, we have to ensure adequate patrols on a daily basis to avert future attacks.
“It is very sad and unfortunate we have to witness this kind of attack at this time.
“I will constitute a small committee to ascertain the level of the damage and advise the government on how to avert future occurrence,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army says suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists are responsible for Saturday’s explosion in Maiduguri.
The Army however assured that its operatives have responded appropriately to the situation and residents, as well as the general public, have nothing to fear.
