Mai Mala Buni Caretaker Committee To Take Decision On Kano APC Crisis

The National Leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is yet to receive the certified true copy of the court judgement relating to the leadership crisis in the Kano State chapter of the party.

This was made known on Monday by the National Secretary of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) Senator John James Akpanudoedehe.

He added however that they have applied for a copy of the judgment which will then enable them to take appropriate and informed actions.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that the APC in Kano State has been embroiled in a leadership tussle which has factionalized the party, eventually resulting in the conduct of parallel primaries.

A faction is loyal to the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje while the other faction is led by former Kano state governor and Senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau, and his counterpart representing Kano North, Jubrin Barau.

The leadership crisis took a new turn last Tuesday when the congresses of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje‘s faction of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State was nullified by an Abuja High Court.

The presiding judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, in his ruling on Tuesday upheld the congresses conducted by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the party.

Justice Muazu stated that the congress which returned 17,908 members was valid.

He also restrained Ganduje’s faction from appointing a new executive.

Reacting to the development during a chat with newsmen on Monday, Akpanudoedehe said the national leadership will not rush into a decision on the matter yet but will study the judgment and then take necessary action thereafter.

He said: “We are responsible leaders of the party and we won’t like to comment on a judgement that we haven’t seen.

”All I can tell you now is that, we are going to apply for a Certified True Copy of the judgement. We haven’t seen it. We need to study the judgement.”

The APC CECPC secretary also rejected suggestions that the national body sent two different Committees to Kano State to conduct the State Congress.

” We didn’t give letters to two Committees! How could we have done that? We won’t put fire in our own house, we know the people we gave the official letter to go to Kano and conduct official assignment. That’s the team we will accord recognition,” he stated.
