LASTMA assures Lagos motorists of adequate traffic control
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has assured the public of adequate traffic management and control during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
This is in addition to the ongoing construction works in various parts of the State and the regular uptick in social activities during Yuletide season with a corresponding increase in vehicular traffic.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
Taofiq quoted the agency’s acting General Manager, Bakare Oki, as saying that the Kick Against Indiscipline agency is one of the government agencies with which the agency is working in response to ensure free traffic flow around markets.
He added that this collaboration aims to prevent illegal traders’ activities from impeding travel times leading up to, during, and following the celebration.
Along with routine and consistent patrols, LASTMA police would be equally noticeable at all important road intersections, particularly around well-known traffic flashpoints.
He noted that in order to prevent traffic accidents, every motorist must obey traffic regulations, drive within the prescribed speed limit, avoid reckless driving, and also carry out regular maintenance works on their vehicle before putting them on the road.
The statement partly reads “Following the regular upbeat in social activities during Yuletide season with a corresponding increase in vehicular traffic and in addition to the ongoing construction works at various parts of the State, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has assured motoring public of adequate traffic management and control during the upcoming Christmas/New Year celebrations
“Bakare Oki said, All motorists are urged to maintain speed limits as they embark on their journeys into, within, and outside Lagos as major entry/exit roads in Lagos like Lagos – Ibadan, Lagos-Abeokuta, Lagos – Badagry, Lekki -Epe Expressways and Lagos – Ikorodu – Sagamu Highway would be adequately covered by Lastma personnel for smooth and seamless traffic flow”.
“The LASTMA boss further stressed that as a responsive way of strategizing to ensure free traffic flow around markets, the agency is collaborating with relevant government agencies such as ‘Kick Against Indiscipline’ (K.A.I) to ensure that activities of illegal traders do not affect travel time before, during and after the celebration.
“LASTMA officers’ presence would equally be felt at all the major road intersections along with regular/ consistent patrols, especially along notorious traffic flashpoints.”
He added “According to Ag. General Manager every motorist must obey traffic regulations, drive within the prescribed speed limit, must avoid reckless driving, and also carry out regular maintenance works on their vehicle before putting them on the road to avoid road accidents”
“Do not drink and drive and don’t constitute yourself and other road users to danger on the road, as the law will not be spared in dealing with errant road users who want to infringe on other people’s right to use the roads safely.”
“While wishing every Lagosians a joyous season ahead, Mr. Bakare Oki has therefore been scheduled to meet market leaders on more advocacy on the Lagos State Environmental Law”.
