Kaduna: I Almost Lost My Re-election For Sacking Teachers – El-Rufai
The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that he almost lost his re-election bid in the 2019 election because he relieved some teachers of their duty.
El-Rufai in his statement said some teachers were tested before the election and those that failed were sacked.
The All Progressives Congress Governor further stated that he was ready to sacrifice his second-term ambition to give children in the state quality education.
The Kaduna State Governor stated this at the Ekiti State’s Fountain Summit 2021 on Thursday.
El-Rufai added that his decision to sack unqualified teachers in the state led to threats that he would lose the election.
He said, “My brother here was said to have lost his second term bid the first time because he threatened to test teachers.
“I tested them and fired them before our election. When I was asked that I would lose the second term, I said if losing a second term in office will give Kaduna State children a future with better primary education, I am ready to let it go,” El-Rufai said.
El-Rufai noted that the test was honestly carried out and devoid of partisan politics.
