“He Was Never Buried” – Police Reacts To Rumour Of Man Allegedly Buried Alive In Anambra
A man, Mr Olisa Igbonwa, who was erroneously reported to have been buried alive while taking a chieftaincy title in Anambra State has re-surfaced.
Igbonwa who is a kinsman of the minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had taken a chieftaincy title which some people in the community felt was not within his right. This consequently led to a mock burial being conducted on him by the elders of the community.
A publication (not Ezenwoko’s Blog) had reported that he was placed in a coffin, taken around the community before he was buried while still alive.
However the State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga made a statement saying that Igbonwa visited the command to make a statement against the elders of his community.
The Police spokesperson clarified that the man in question was never buried.
According to him: “The attention of Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to a trending video clip and online publication stating that one Chief Olisa Igbonwa was buried alive In Alor, Anambra State by the Elders of Okebunoye village, Alor, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State.
“The elders met and took a decision to bury and mourn Mr Igbonwa alive for taking ‘Ichie Ngene’ title by himself in the community.
“The publication is not only false but also misleading. The Command wishes to state that Olisa Igbonwa is alive and was never buried alive as alleged in the publication.”
He said that Igbonwa claimed that he was threatened by Mr Uzoma Igbonwa and others after receiving a chieftaincy title from HRM Igwe Alor.
Ikenga stated further that Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng has ordered an investigation into the matter.
