Gernot Rohr set to hand ex-Man Utd star Odion Ighalo a shock return to the Super Eagles
The former Manchester United man retired from international duty two years ago, but he is set for a sensational return to the team
Soccernet can confirm that former Watford striker Odion Ighalo is set for a shock return to the Super Eagles squad ahead of next month’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is set to name the Al-Shabab striker in his squad for the clash against Cape Verde and Liberia next month.
The German tactician and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick have already spoken to Ighalo, although he has asked to talk to his club before deciding.
Should everything go according to plan, Ighalo will be in the squad for next month’s qualifiers and possibly next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The ex-Watford retired from international duty after Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he finished as the top scorer with five goals.
Ighalo scored 16 goals in 35 games for Nigeria.
