[Flashback] EndSARS: ‘Some People Were Seeing Double, Nobody Was Killed’ – Tukur Buratai
The Lagos state Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and other matters on Monday described the killing of peaceful protesters at Lekki toll gate on the night of October 20, 2020, as a ‘massacre’.
Justice Doris Okuwobi-led panel disclosed this in its report submitted to the Lagos State Government on Monday.
Before the release of the report on Monday, some prominent persons in the country had denied the killings of innocent protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate.
The former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, in his reaction to the claims and reports that Nigerians were killed months ago maintained that soldiers of the Nigerian Army did not kill peaceful EndSARS protesters.
Buratai who spoke at the decoration of 39 newly promoted Major Generals in Abuja, claimed that there was no corpse during the protest at the Lekki toll gate.
The former COAS further stated that those claiming EndSARS protesters were killed were seeing double.
Buratai said, “I am glad that we held the Spiritual Warfare Seminar on Wednesday and most of the decorated Generals today are graduates of the Spiritual Warfare Seminar.
“I must say that the Spiritual Warfare Seminar we had last time, helped us during the last #EndSARS protest to the extent that there was no single corpse, but some persons were seeing double at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State.”
Meanwhile, the panel disclosed that not less than eleven #EndSARS protesters were killed at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.
According to the report submitted by the panel, eleven protesters were confirmed dead while four others were “missing presumed dead”.
