Flashback: Abba Kyari Recieves Standing Ovation At National Assembly
The suspended head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, on the 11th, June 2020 received a standing ovation from the House of Representatives over his exceptional service to the Nigeria Police Force and the country as a whole.
Kyari and his team were celebrated by the lawmakers for undertaking several critical operations across the country.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, paid glowing tributes to Kyari, whom he described as an intelligent man.
He said, “It is not what they do all the time and for everybody but for those who have distinguished themselves in various fields of service.
“This is also to show Nigerians that despite the not too good image of the Nigerian police, there are very good officers in the force.
“This is the greatest honour because this is the only institution where all Nigerians are represented. This is not an award from the house of reps alone but an award from the entire people of Nigeria.”
However, less than two years after the super cop was celebrated for his service to the Nigeria Police Force, there had been numerous allegations levelled against him.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States of America in 2021 accused Kyari of being involved in a fraud case involving internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
It was reported that Hushpuppi paid bribes to Kyari to have one of his rivals arrested and jailed in Nigeria following a dispute over a $1.1 million dupe of a Qatari businessperson.
Meanwhile, the latest which has stirred reaction across the country is the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency accusing Kyari of trafficking drugs.
The development has since seen the suspended head of IRT arrested by the Nigeria police who then handed him over to the NDLEA for further investigation.
There are claims that he would be extradited to the US after answering his case with the NDLEA.
