Flash Back: Wike Speaks On Dumping PDP For APC – [Video]

The executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, sparked defection rumours after photos of him with All Progressives Congress chieftains surfaced on the internet.

Recall that the 59-year-old legal practitioner had contested in the recently concluded presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lost to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

While still recovering from the defeat in the primaries, Wike again lost the Vice Presidential slot of the PDP to his counterpart from Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Reports, however, emerged on Monday morning that the Rivers State governor may dump APC.

The Rivers governor, who has been very quiet recently, is alleged to have established talks with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Ezenwoko’s Blog learnt that Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi on Saturday arrived in Port-Harcourt and met with Wike, in what is called “a friendly and brotherly” visit at 9 pm.

Umahi’s visit makes it the first meeting with Wike after the former dumped the PDP for the APC following an alleged dissatisfaction with the party.

However, while Wike is yet to make any comment about the viral reports of his defection move, Ezenwoko’s Blog recalls the politician had in the past denied plans to dump PDP for APC during an interview in 2021.

Wike who was responding to the defection of Governor Umahi on June 1, 2021, said the viral video about him defecting to APC was a cut and sew content, manipulated to give a false impression that he is leaving the opposition camp.

Wike stated categorically that he remained committed to the PDP.

Sharing the reportedly manipulated video on his Twitter page, Wike captioned: “This interview from 2021 was cut and manipulated to give a false impression that I am leaving @OfficialPDPNig. Nothing could be further from the truth as I remain a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party.”

However, the recent assertions about Wike’s planned defection remains a rumour until the Rivers State Governor affirms it himself.
